Description

Longan Charcoal Roasted High Mountain Oolong

Longan Charcoal Roasted High Mountain Oolong is the classic tea of our company, well received and commendable. Over the years, our Taiwanese tea makers have been following the traditional process and using the best quality tea leaves.  The goal is to pass along the valuable culture of Taiwan tea processing to the next generation.

Longan Charcoal Roasted High Mountain Oolong is using the same good quality tea leaves of Shan Lin Xi tea district. Besides hand-plucking and rolling the tea leaves, the Taiwanese tea makers insist on using longan charcoal for the roasting fire, albeit paying higher material and labour costs.  Longan charcoal is famous for producing fume-less fire, prolonged flame and constant temperature, as well as emitting a slight fragrance of the longan fruit.

The longan charcoal roasting method is both a delicate and tedious process.  The tea makers have to stand by the furnace day and night, enduring high temperature and checking the fire, adding or removing charcoals from time to time to ensure that the tea leaves are not over- or under-roasted.  Without the dedication of the tea makers, there would be no Longan Charcoal Roasted High Mountain Oolong, a tea that has multiple layers of tastes and aroma, sweet and smooth, and can be steeped for multiple times with loads of flavours and aftertastes that linger on the taste buds.

The dry tealeaves of Longan Charcoal Roasted High Mountain Oolong emanate a strong roasted aroma with a mix of floral and fruity fragrance, and a sweet smell of caramel. After steeping, there is an additional toasty aroma emitting from the tea broth with has a yellowish amber colour, crisp and clear.  When sipped, a foretaste, which is smooth and thick, sweet and roasted, unfolds in the mouth, the palate and the sinuses.  The aftertaste has a bit of sweetness that stays in the throat.  This is really a good tea for those who love a roasted taste of high mountain oolong.

Brewing Notes

  • Preparation Steep:  Use 5 grams (about 1 tablespoon) of tea leaves for 1 person.  Pour hot water (100°C) to cover the tea leaves and filter away the water immediately. This prepares the tea for subsequent steeping.
  • First Steep:  Use 200ml of hot water (95-100°C) to steep the tea for 1.5 to 2 minutes.  Filter the tea and enjoy.
  • Subsequent Steep:  Again use hot water (~95°C) and steep 15 seconds longer.
